Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the NHRC, Jaber al-Hwail

Qatar National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) works independently and transparently at all levels, a senior official said here Sunday.
Addressing students of Omar bin Abdul Aziz Independent Secondary School for Boys during their visit to the Committee headquarters, Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the NHRC, Jaber Al Hwail, said the committee works fairly and upholds human rights issues.
The NHRC receiving A Grade accreditation from the International Coordinating Committee of National Human Rights Institutions (ICC) reaffirms NHRC's transparent and neutral work at local, regional and international levels, he said.
In this context, he added NHRC's development is not only limited to its accreditation to A status but now it heads the international commission tasked to adopt national committees around the world and it is a sub- committee of the International Coordinating Committee.
He gave a briefing on the main objectives and mechanisms and nature of the cases received by the NHRC, saying in accordance to the decree establishing it, the committee attaches concern over issues of everyone living in Qatar's territories whether a citizen or a resident and even those who visit the country until their return to their country.
He gave also explained NHRC's mechanisms and methods for solving complaints filed by petitioners and providing legal advice to them.
Al Hwail pointed out that the committee organizes workshops , seminars, media campaigns to raise awareness on workers' rights and obligations stipulated at the Qatari labor law and also distributes relevant leaflets and pamphlets issued on expatriate workers' languages.
He expressed thanks to administration of Omar bin Abdul Aziz School for its interest in educating students and raising their awareness on value of human rights, stressing the committee's readiness to visit and provide lectures to students in the subjects that they desired.
